We rarely have time to use Social Media because we are busy serving many thousands of satisfied customers.
The vast majority of our customers are normal, decent, honest, trustworthy (and competent) people who don’t have “axes to grind” and don’t use social media to broadcast everything they do and everything they think.
We are not beyond accurate criticism but we have become aware of some negative and inaccurate bile posted by some spiteful people who appear to be sulking in frustration because we refuse to supply them.
One keyboard warrior is a former customer we refuse to supply.
One is a former customer who waited for her £56.40 debt to “rise up” to £234.40 (including court costs)
before bailiffs collected it.
(We assume she will soon post reviews criticizing the courts, the judges, the bailiffs and the British legal system)
One - who has never been a customer - demanded a quote for a little hobby machine we don’t supply.
One - who has never been a customer - has already had far more than enough free technical help.
One - who has never been a customer - was told by his father to order a particular machine but demanded a different model which we knew to be unsuitable for what they do (and not the model his father had discussed with us) but when we told him we did not wish to be responsible for supplying the wrong machine and suggested he purchase it elsewhere he responded with a threatening email…………..!!!
Other keyboard warriors are people we “avoid like the plague”
Interestingly we notice that keyboard warriors are usually “serial reviewers” who post comments, usually negative, about almost everybody who has had the misfortune to have had dealings with them.
Perhaps they are just sad people with nothing better to do.
Or perhaps they think it excuses them from paying their bills.
Threatening to post negative reviews is rapidly becoming a new form of blackmail.
We could stoop to their level and embarrass them by publicising why we refuse to supply them but they usually do a perfectly good job of humiliating themselves so rather than waste time correcting their inaccurate bile with individual replies we will merely comment on the benefits and disadvantages of Social Media.
THE BENEFITS OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Social Media provides a platform for people who might otherwise find it difficult or unaffordable to get information into the public domain.
When it is used responsibly by intelligent people it can be a great benefit to society.
Because it is largely unregulated it can be misused - sometimes by dangerous and misguided people - to publish falsehood and prejudice to mislead and incite gullible followers to jump onto their bandwagons.
Far too often this is simply described as “fake news” - but it has already caused many serious problems for society.
A source of information or a blackmailer’s charter??
Some, (or all) site providers appear to make little or no attempt to check the accuracy of what they allow to be published on their sites.
They also make it difficult and time consuming for readers - whether they be beneficiaries of positive reviews or victims of negative reviews - to challenge or refute what is published about them.
If the site providers were UK based newspapers or radio or TV broadcasters they could be sued for libel.
THE UNFAIR - LIBEL WITHOUT LIABILITY
Keyboard warriors who post inaccuracies can usually do so without being challenged because the people they libel have more dignity than to stoop to their level.
IMPECUNITY PROVIDES IMMUNITY
Litigation can be expensive - keyboard warriors are usually impecunious - so they know they are not worth suing.
Some keyboard warriors fail to realise that they make themselves look foolish by advertising their own ignorance, others humiliate themselves by broadcasting their “personal problems” in the futile hope of obtaining sympathy.
We are sympathetic to those with “personal problems” but we are not psychiatrists.
Most people who read social media reviews are considerably smarter than many who post them.
The smarter people see through the inaccurate bile - so when they have finished laughing.
They contact us and become customers.
OUR MESSAGE TO SAD KEYBOARD WARRIORS.
Please continue to publish your amusing libel – you are increasing our income.
But don’t irritate us too much or we might be tempted to publish WHY we refuse to supply you.
